Today I’d love to share with you
one of Korea’s
most beloved street foods:
Korean Street Toast.
If you’ve ever walked down
a street in Seoul early
in the morning
and caught the smell of
something buttery, eggy,
and a little sweet
in the air...
yep, that’s probably
street toast!
🥢 What is K-Food,
and why is Street Toast special?

K-ood, or Korean food, is loved around the world for its bold flavors, balanced nutrition, and beautiful presentation. Dishes like kimchi, bulgogi, and tteokbokki often take the spotlight, but Korea’s soul food is just as magical—and street toast is a perfect example.
This warm, comforting toast was (and still is!) a go-
to breakfast for students and office workers grabbing something quick and filling on their way out the door. It’s not fancy, but it’s nostalgic, satisfying, and deeply Korean. And the best part? You can make it easily at home!
🛒 Ingredients (Serves 2)

4 slices of bread, 3 eggs, 1 cup shredded cabbage, 1/4 carrot julienned, A bit of chopped green onion (optional), 1 tablespoon sugar, A pinch of salt, 1 tablespoon butter, 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of cheese (any type you like!), Ketchup & mayonnaise, Cooking oil
🍳 Let’s Make Korean Street Toast!
1. Prepare the vegetables
Thinly slice the cabbage, carrot, and green onion. Pat them dry so they cook nicely.
2. Make the egg mixture
In a bowl, beat the eggs, then add the vegetables and a pinch of salt. Mix gently.
3. Cook the veggie-egg patty
Heat a pan with some oil and pour the mixture in a flat, round shape—about the size of your bread. Cook both sides until golden.
4. Grill the ham
In the same pan, lightly grill your ham slices. Bacon also works if you prefer.
5. Toast the bread
Melt butter in the pan and toast the bread slices until crispy and golden brown. This step adds so much flavor!
6. Assemble the sandwich
Place the veggie-gg patty on one slice of toast. Add ham and cheese, drizzle with ketchup and mayo, and here’s the magic touch: a sprinkle of sugar. Top with another slice of toast and cut in half.

🍴 Little Tips for Big Flavor
The sugar may surprise you, but it’s what makes this toast uniquely Korean—it creates a sweet-savory harmony.
You can switch out ham for mushrooms or tofu to make a vegetarian version.
Try pairing this with barley tea, Korean-style soy milk, or yuzu tea—it’s an excellent combo!
